Our Story

Brain Teaser LA was founded in 2019 by siblings Maya and Daniel Reeves, who combined their expertise in immersive theater and engineering to create something unique in the Los Angeles entertainment scene. What began as a single room in a small rented space has grown into one of the city's premier escape room destinations.

The journey started when Maya, a former set designer for Hollywood productions, visited her first escape room and immediately saw the potential to elevate the experience with professional-grade production values. She partnered with her brother Daniel, a mechanical engineer with a passion for puzzles, and together they poured their savings into creating their first room: "Detective in Hollywood."

The original location could only accommodate eight players at a time, but word quickly spread about the exceptional quality and attention to detail. Within six months, they had expanded to a second room and hired their first two employees. By 2021, despite pandemic challenges, they had moved to our current location in West Hollywood and developed the immersive "Horror Maze" and family-friendly "Treasure Island" experiences.

Today, Brain Teaser LA employs a diverse team of creative professionals, from puzzle designers to actors, all dedicated to pushing the boundaries of interactive entertainment. We've welcomed over 50,000 players and regularly host corporate team-building events for major companies throughout Southern California.

Maya Reeves

Creative Director & Co-Founder

With a background in theatrical set design and immersive experiences, Maya oversees the creative vision for all Brain Teaser LA rooms. Her previous work includes set design for major Hollywood productions and interactive art installations across Los Angeles. Maya holds an MFA from CalArts and brings her passion for storytelling to every room we create.

Daniel Reeves

Technical Director & Co-Founder

Daniel brings engineering expertise and a lifelong love of puzzles to Brain Teaser LA. With a background in mechanical engineering and robotics, he designs and implements the technical elements that make our rooms truly interactive. His innovations include custom electronic puzzles, automated mechanisms, and integrated control systems that create seamless immersive experiences.

Olivia Chen

Lead Game Designer

Olivia joined Brain Teaser LA in 2020, bringing experience from her background in video game design and escape rooms in San Francisco. She specializes in creating puzzles that are challenging yet intuitive, ensuring players experience those "aha!" moments throughout their adventure. Olivia holds a degree in Game Design from USC and has designed award-winning mobile games.

Marcus Jefferson

Operations Manager

Marcus ensures every guest at Brain Teaser LA has an exceptional experience from booking to post-game debriefing. With over 15 years in hospitality management at luxury hotels, Marcus brings a customer-first approach to all aspects of our operation. He leads our team of Game Masters and oversees facility maintenance to ensure our rooms are always in perfect condition.
